Culann
– Demo
The latest demo from Irvine 5-piece Culann showcases an interesting and diverse sound which, while primarily progressive rock, also incorporates other genres to create a somewhat unique sound - especially in comparison to what many bands are trying to do right now. This makes the two tracks on this demo a refreshing change with both tracks having something good to offer.
“Bogus Conclusions” is the better of the two tracks with its impressive guitar melodies and a strong vocal performance which switches from understated to overwrought with relative ease. That, coupled with a strong rhythm section throughout and some imposing instrumental sections ensures that “Bogus Conclusions” is a very good song indeed.
“Mindsweeper” has more of a math-rock feel to it in places with its intricate guitar lines, and while it is a solid effort with plenty to offer it never quite lives up to the same quality as “Bogus Conclusions”. Nevertheless, both tracks showcase the potential of the band and suggest that with a little work Culann should continue to pick up new fans both in their native Scotland and further afield.
